Working with land managers

I have been involved with numerous organizations including the R User coding group at Colorado State and numerous conference planning committees. The organization I work with most closely is the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), with which I've been involved for nearly a decade. I have served as student chapter president at Colorado State University, in numerous roles for the SER Rocky Mountain chapter, as student representative on the international board, and now on SER's Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity Committee. If you are interested in learning more about this organization contact me or check out the links above.

I strive to introduce individuals from diverse backgrounds to ecological science and restoration. Most recently, I had the opportunity to chat about plants, restoration, and ecology with families participating in Denver's Black to Nature Book Club during field trips to natural areas including Barr Lake, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, and Bluff Lake. In partnership with Wildlands Restoration Volunteers, we established a pollinator garden at Bluff Lake in 2021. I have also participated in youth outreach activities with:

As a first generation college student, I would not have pursued science, learned of employment opportunities in natural resource fields, or completed a PhD without the guidance and encouragement of countless teachers and mentors. I now hope to guide others through the scientific process and introduce them to ecological research through teaching and mentorship. I have mentored students through the following programs:

I believe that exchange between researchers and practitioners is foundational to conducting science with applicable outcomes for improved land management. Therefore, I aim to learn from and work with land managers to develop research that helps address the issues they contend with in their struggle to maintain diverse and functioning ecosystems. I've worked with land mangers from Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management, and private companies throughout my work.
